Snowshoeing in Minnesota over Christmas 2008

Me and the Hubs snowshoeing in Minnesota over Christmas 2008

Hi, my name is Kathy. I started my blog in early 2008 as an outlet for writing – my dream is to be a published author and I am little by little working my way toward that, while taking care of my husband and two dogs, working full-time as a copywriter, chipping away at my endless list of books to read, and doing endurance sports.

Life, Really

honesty. truth. God. faith. reality. questioning. trying to figure things out. life. confusion. hard stuff. emotions. body image. fitness. food. fun. love. running. nature. husband. friends.

I strive to make my blog  as authentic as I can and share about life as it really is. I don’t package everything up with a pretty little bow and pretend that I am always happy as a clam. I have struggles, trials, temptations, failures, doubts and have found time and time again that being open and honest serves other people going through similar situations.

I also share what I’m learning about God in my Christian walk, with all of the messiness and joy that comes with it. Since becoming a Christian in 2005, I have learned over and over again that it is only through Christ that I amount to anything – and it is because of Him that I have a purpose in life and value as a person. He is my hope, my inspiration, my calm amid the storms of life. He is the reason I get out of bed in the morning and the person I praise when I go to bed at night. He is my everything.

I make no excuses for my faith. I will probably step on some toes and offend some egos. I don’t do that to throw my faith in anyone’s face. Rather, I post my honest and real beliefs here because Christ is who I have staked my life on. It would hypocritical for me to not share, not to mention dishonoring to Christ Himself.

I am learning about life as I go, trusting in my heavenly Father to provide and protect, and praying for the Spirit’s strength to glorify Christ in every situation by finding my joy in Him, and Him alone.

That said, I am not a pastor or a theologian. I am not above being wrong or mistaken. If anything I say here doesn’t line up with what the final authority of the Bible teaches, call me on it.

If you’re wondering, my blog used to be called Joy in Being Broken but I changed it to Life, Really in August 2011, not because I am no longer a broken person, but because I combined my triathlon/running blog with this blog and wanted to make the title more relevant to a fitness readership.

Family Life

My sweet husband, Travis, and I have been married since May 19, 2007, and currently live in Denver. We have two adorable furbabies named Katy and Charlie. They’re a handful and sometimes get into trouble but we love them.

I was born and raised in Minnesota. Since moving to Colorado in 2007, I have discovered that I love my home state (despite freezing winters, humid summers and bugs galore) and Travis and I talk about moving back someday (he grew up there too). Though we love living in Colorado, Minnesota has our hearts.

Read how Travis and I met.

Hey I just found your blog while tag surfing… and we have much in common- I’m Christian, a newlywed (married 8/07), and live in the Twin Cities! I’ve been reading some of your blog entries and totally relate to most of what you write about. It’s great to find fellow sisters in Christ on wordpress. God bless you and your husband (and enjoy eating chocolate again!) :) -Carrie

Kathy, I happened upon your blog while looking for pictures of white curtains for a living room! Crazy huh! I live in Miami Fla. with my husband and two boys. We have been here 12 yrs. My husband is a worship pastor at Christ Fellowship. We also have a daughter, your age, that has been married for two yrs. She and her husband live in Tampa Fla. and are on staff with Navigators ministry on the campus of USF. Both of our sons, Andy, 22, and Austin, 16 are active in our church ministry in music with my husband and in the youth areas. I just wanted you to know that I loved reading your blog and seeing your love for Jesus. What a testiment to a life totally devoted to God. It’s such a blessing to see others in love with our Lord. Just wanted you to know, that happenstance just doesn’t ever jell with me….I believe that things happen for a reason……so to say all of that…I will pray for you and your husband this day, that God would bless you and guide you in your ministries. God bless! His, Linda Flores

Hey Kathy, I found a book I really think I’m going to like last night. It’s called The God-Empowered Wife. It deals with the sometimes seemingly conflicting worlds of being a strong woman and a Christian wife. I can’t wait to dive back into it tonight. I’ll keep you posted as to what I think about it. Happy reading!
